Heya ka-Triton! You are thinking
about freshening up your interiors for a while now. But you don’t know where to start. You are
considering lots of things right now, like the color palette, your furniture,
and accessories. And you are getting overwhelmed because of this.
But you don’t have to overwhelm
yourself anymore because we’re here to help you renovate! Today, we’ll show you
how to design your interiors with Contemporary Design.
What is
Contemporary Design?
By definition, the word
contemporary means something happening or existing in the current period or the
present time. By this principle, Contemporary Design changes with each decade
as it borrows and combines elements from trendy interior designs of a given
period.
For
example, the contemporary design of the 1970s borrowed and combined the
elements of traditional, modern, art deco, and futuristic designs.
Now
compare that to the contemporary design of the 21st century. You will see it
defined by the combined characteristics of Minimalist, Scandinavian, and Modern
Design. That is why you will find it neat, simple, comfy, and subtly
sophisticated.
How to
Create a Room in the Contemporary Style?
Contemporary
design enjoys more freedom compared to other design styles. But that doesn’t
mean that it doesn’t have rules. To truly design your room in a Contemporary
way, you must do the following:
Like other trendy interior designs, contemporary interiors make use of a neutral color palette. Whites, blacks, grays, and beiges are among the top shades for Contemporary interiors.
More often than not, additional bold-colored accent pieces (art pieces, vases, furniture, etc.) are included to add contrast and play with the neutral palette.
As a general rule of thumb, paint your walls with neutral colors and use bright colored accents. Do the reverse if you paint your wall with bold colors.
When painting
interior walls, we suggest you use Odour-Fresh Anti-Bacterial Latex Paint. It
leaves no fumes once dried, and it has anti-bacterial properties that can keep
your family safer from disease-causing microorganisms.
2. On Furniture
Furniture in the contemporary design is simple, uncluttered, clean-lined, and modern. Usually, designers pick upholstered pieces of furniture in neutral tones, and they accent it with pillows with a different design.
Another thing to
take note of about this is that a less is more approach is in place. That is
why beds, ottomans, sofas, and chairs have exposed legs and forego with skirts,
trims, tassels, or excessive carved details. Always go bare and basic.
3. On Floors
Contemporary Floors
must be smooth and bare. To achieve this, designers use wood, solid-colored
tiles, and vinyl. However, you may include geometric-patterned or plain carpets
for texture, color, and warmth.
When using wooden
floors, it is best to coat them with Triton 2k Wood Furniture Finish. That way,
your wooden floors will stay protected for years.
4. Lighting
Let as much natural light in as you can to brighten up the room. Natural light keeps your interiors bright without the help of ambient lights, thus helping you reduce your electricity bill.
If you can’t, you
can use ambient lights for the whole room, accent lights to highlight a
specific accent or feature like a painting, and task lighting for study tables
and dining areas.
For the final touches, you can add
the following to complete the details of your contemporary designed rooms:
- Metal,
stone, or glass accessories
- Heavy
fabrics for curtains, pillows, rugs, and carpets
- Tall and
flowering plants
Neatness, simplicity, subtle
sophistication, comfiness, and the ability to incorporate elements from other
designs define Contemporary design. Now that you are familiar with the rules
and features of Contemporary Design, you can now start renovating!
